Relatives
The Narwhal has many relatives, but it is closely related to the Beluga Whale. They are both in the Monodontidae family, which they are the only two species in that family. They are both medium sized whales. They both have forehead melons and do no have a true dorsal fin, and they are highly vocal animals.
The Narwhal is also related to Dolphins and Porpoises. They are all part of the Cetacea order, which means whale, or large sea animal. They are nearly hairless, and have blubber to keep them warm. Their forelimbs are modified into flippers, to help them swim in the ocean. Some of the species in the Cetacea family are very intelligent. Today, they are the mammals best adapted for aquatic life.
